Lexington Residence
The design objective for the Lexington Residence entailed converting an existing Christian Science Church into a modern home without losing the architectural character of the space. The worship hall was promptly identified as the homes visual and organizational focal point and was modified to create a central space containing the kitchen, family room, and dining room. Built-in elements were designed to help anchor and distinguish the multiple functions within the space and form "rooms within the room". The building was mostly gutted during construction but elements from the existing church were salvaged and integrated back into the architecture. The new elements play off the style and scale of the original details to create a cohesive design. The result is a space with a classic feel with integrated modern amenities. Furthermore, the organ loft was converted into children's bedrooms, the reception hall is now a formal living room and library, and the basement assembly space contains a 1000+ bottle wine room, gym, and home theater. Significant work was also done on the exterior including a new stucco application, a large pergola, and exterior living spaces.
