The Grand Canal

The Client engaged Conner Design to help solve a variety of leasing, permitting, and space planning issues. The first challenge involved reconfiguring a staircase, serving the second floor, that criss-crossed above service spaces for `The Grand Canal’ below. A mutually beneficial design solution was conceived that resolved the upstairs tenant egress issues while simultaneously preserving the service spaces in the restaurant and addressing the need for a secured connection with the future adjoining Busker’s Bar. The second challenge comprised adding a temporary wood deck on available land behind The Grand Canal. The design solution was cost effective, efficient, and maximized seating capacity while providing handicapped access, and power for lighting and game viewing on large inflatable outdoor screens. The third challenge resulted from the added seating capacity of the wood deck and required the Architect to verify adequate code necessities such as plumbing fixture counts and egress capacity.
